FAQ

Common Questions

A standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency. For Gold (XAUUSD), 1 lot = 100 troy ounces. For Silver, 1 lot = 5,000 oz. Your broker may offer mini lots (0.1) and micro lots (0.01) as well.
Most professional traders risk 1–2% of their account per trade. This means even 10 consecutive losses would only reduce your account by 10–20%. Risking more than 5% per trade significantly increases the chance of blowing your account.
The minimum tradable lot is 0.01 (micro lot). If your balance is small or your stop loss is very large, the mathematically correct lot size may fall below this minimum. In this case, either increase your balance, widen your risk %, or tighten your stop loss.
In Pips mode, you enter your stop loss as a number of pips (e.g. 150 pips). In Price Difference mode, you enter the actual price gap between your entry and stop loss (e.g. if Gold entry is $3,300 and SL is $3,285, the price difference is $15.00). PipWise converts it to pips automatically.
PipWise uses standard industry contract sizes. Most brokers follow these specs. However, some brokers use non-standard contract sizes — for example, some offer Gold at 10 oz/lot instead of 100 oz. Always check your broker's instrument spec sheet and use the "Custom" contract size option if needed.
